The Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law Bayero University, Kano is one of the oldest departments in the Faculty. It was established in 1988. At present, the department has 11 academic staff that specialized in various branches of public law. This include but not limited to Human rights law, criminal law, constitutional law, environmental law, terrorism law, consumer protection law, labour law, economic and crimes law, legal clinic, property law, oil and gas law, cybercrimes law and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Law.
The department offers two postgraduate programmes namely: LL. M (Public Law) and LL. M (ICT Law). There are currently over 90 registered Postgraduate students in the department. Some are undergoing course work, others are still working on their dissertations and few have submitted draft copies awaiting internal examination. The staff are working assiduously with a view to ensuring students complete their respective programmes within the minimum period of study.
As part of its academic activities, the department organizes seminars for academics within and outside the department. Over the years, the best papers presented are peer-reviewed and published in local and international law journals. It may interest you to note that the maiden edition of the departmental journal (Bayero Journal of Public Law) was published in 2009 and we are now looking forward to the 2021 edition of the journal.
